Representation:

Palm Springs now has a majority-Hispanic city council, reflecting the city's diversity.

College of the Desert Palm Springs Campus:

Broke ground on a $405 billion campus offering bachelor's degrees in Architectural Design and Casino Management, along with a culinary & hospitality institute.

Navigation Center:

Opened 80 independent modular living quarters and 55 overnight beds for unhoused residents, with access to mental health, domestic violence, substance abuse, and job placement services.

Affordable Housing:

New affordable housing units added: 60 at Monarch Apartment Homes, 61 at Vista Sunrise, and 71 (plus 25 transitional housing units) opening soon at Allow Palm Canyon.

Bridge Projects:

Progress on Indian Canyon Bridge, S. Palm Canyon Drive over Tahquitz Creek (soon), Ramon Road Bridge (widening in late 2025), and Vista Chino Bridge (mid-2027).

Hotel Development:

Thompson Hotel (168 rooms) now open, and the $300 million Dream Hotel is progressing.

Airport Expansion:

2.2 billion expansion early planning underway.

Plans and Priorities 2025

Fiscal Responsibility:

Prioritize fiscal responsibility and efficient city operations while completing existing projects.

Quality of Life:

Focus on homelessness, crime, and housing. Maintain fully staffed Police and Fire departments. Demand results from existing homelessness programs and explore workforce housing.

Economic Development:

Diversify the economy while nurturing tourism. Created the Mayor’s Council for Economic Development, focusing on:

  • Technology, innovation, and incubation.

  • A Clean Energy Zone in North Palm Springs.

  • Positioning Palm Springs as a cultural and artistic attraction.

  • Supporting the Economic Development office through streamlined permitting, marketing campaigns, and implementation tools.

Prioritization:

Prioritization: "Put the brakes on" new projects and overreaching goals. Focus on completing existing projects and improving constituent services. Align the strategic work of city council, departments, and commissions.

"We Can" City:

Embrace a "We Can" attitude to problem-solving. Streamline city customer services, create a one-stop shop for development services, and prioritize customer satisfaction.

Civility and Respect:

Promote civility and respect in public discourse.
